The layout is a two-level "mushroom" design, allowing almost twice as much mainline running as would be possible on a single level. The drawing shows how the track and aisles on the lower level are located beneath the track on the upper aisle.
The diagrams below show the aisles and towns on each of the two levels of the EMRA's layout. The cross sections at the bottom show the benchwork construction.

Notes:
- there is over six feet of headroom in the lower aisles.
- we have avoided a helix to join the two levels by running to the left from Monashee Summit, then along three walls of the room, through Fire Valley.
